Residential Garbage and Landfill Information
Residential Garbage Collection
The Cherokee County Commission has the overall responsibility to provide adequate, regular and efficient Solid Waste Collection for all residents and occupants of residential units in rural Cherokee County. This is pursuant of Code of Alabama 1975, Section 22-27-1 and subsequent Solid Waste Management regulations adopted by the State Board of Health on November 18, 1981.
A resolution was passed by the Cherokee County Commission on November 23, 1992 which states that all residents and occupants of residential units in rural Cherokee County, excluding residents in the county’s municipalities who are not participating in this service, shall be required to have accumulations of solid waste removed and disposed of on a weekly basis by a licensed contractor for the Cherokee County Commission. Potential for generation of solid waste shall be construed as not only permanent residents at a property but also camping, picnicking, or other activity where garbage is generated at any time.
The Cherokee County Commission contracts with Waste Management for residential garbage collection. To set up an account or make changes to an existing account, call their offices at 256-792-6004 or visit wm.com.
